    another tattoo!

This tattoo was designed for my best bud JoAnna. I did the birds and the tattoo artist Pete did the flowers. The birds represent JoAnna and Joel and their brood including little Sophia who was not meant for this world but I'm sure is hovering close by - watching, protecting, and laughing out loud. Big love JoAnna, you are a brave good mama.

    pass on your luck

Today is a big day for us. We attended our youngest's graduation ceremony and watched him walk through the gates of life into our arms for his next big step into elementary school. After unsuccessfully holding back tears my husband and I grabbed a coffee at the drive-thru, I felt like I deserved a consolation pat on the back for not crumbling right there on the floor, in front of the entire school yelling, no! not him. Please don't let him grow up too soon - he's the last one! Can't he stay?

We laughed and cried, were proud and sad... and silent. It's true what they say, it does go by fast. And in that "fast" drive thru moment we were surprised when the girl at the window said "It's your lucky day! The gentleman ahead of you paid for your coffee because he wanted to pass on his good luck." What? And he was gone. Poof! The coffee elf had vanished.  Now we want to pass it on. Wouldn't it be fun if we all passed it on? Picturing an endless ricochet of good luck and many more gate's of life ceremonies.

    Kathie Sever and Shannon Lowry

I'm double posting here and over at back and forth project. This picture pretty much sums up how we feel today. We got the green light, we have an agent! In just a few days from now our children's book Ruby and Esme will be landing on editor's desks far and wide. We should know something by mid-summer. Until then you can listen to Kathie and Bernadette's podcast interview over at craftypod...and then go on vacation and think bidding war for Ruby and Esme until you here from us again! How can you help us? Make a comment on the back and forth blog. Thank you!

The Birth of Cool and big bucks bovines

    Picture 4

Did I say I was going to blog last week? Um...I meant to. I did do my taxes, sent out lots of orders and rewarded myself with a trip to the Blanton to see the Birth of the Cool mid-century modern exhibit. I loved it, an era after my own heart. I forget that these trips are essential for new ideas. So if you're feeling like you can't take a break because work is work and gallery hopping is play, get your keys, bike, or walking shoes on and head out before your bubble bursts.

After leaving Birth of the Cool, my head swimming with Eames, Duke Ellington, Saul Bass, and countless other inspirations we see that not a stones throw away there are pigs, goats, and champion steers raised by 4H youth grazing in front of the Bob Bullock museum. This little bovine buddy below sold for $50 grand. $50k!! What?!

We never forget we're in Texas.

I wonder if Mr. Champion likes letterpress cards...

    Moth Monday

This little guy showed up last week just below the door to my studio. Does anyone know what kind of moth this is? I've been looking but haven't found a match. Back to blogging this week!

    World changing

Hello! Getting back to blogging has been difficult this year but I'm determined to inspire myself and hopefully you once again. I've been feeling a little lost and not sure how I want this year to pan out. I've been thinking about what does it all mean and how can I make my business take that extra step into meaning that holds water for me. I'm searching for an answer and today I stumbled across World Changing. Seems like a great place to start! And I love this photo of my wee one - fitting for world change, don't you think?! Be sure to check out the canary project.

6 hours, 12 boys, and a song that makes me cry

Musician David Rice is a friend and a fellow father in my son's class who made this video and song come to fruition. Here is what David has to say about the experience, "I had one of the best experiences in ages last week when ASCAP and America Scores sent me to an inner-city school in Dallas as part of their national songwriting mentorship program. With the goal of writing a song together, I was left alone in a classroom with twelve 8-year-old boys and no teacher to moderate, The first day was pretty tough, on the second we hit a breakthrough, and by day three we were rocking it in a big-time studio. Sing along! (Shot with my MBPro's built-in webcam)"

THanks David for sharing. What an experience for you and for all of us! And most of all, thank you to the boys of Obadiah Knight Elementary for singing what's true to you!!!

See more of David's work here.

    traveling leaves

    Fallleaves1

    Fallleaves3

    Fallleaves2

We picked up A Drive in the Country illustrated by local artist Marc Burkhardt. The story is adorable, a Sunday drive in the country with no destination in mind but being together. During the drive the family stops by the road to pick fall leaves to send to their cousins who don't have Autumn where they live. What a sweet idea! So I asked my dear friend Katherine of Minnesota if she would pop some in the mail to us. This little package of traveling leaves made us so happy. We read the book again and I surprised the boys with the package at the end of the book. They loved it! We all loved it. Thank you Katherine for making our day.
